In 2012, Nova Rotors supplied the pumping solution for a480 kW biogas plantprocessing biomass and animal by-products. More than a decade later, the plant is still in operation, demonstrating the long-term reliability and efficiency of the installed pumping system.
To feed the anaerobic digester,Diamond Series DHS and DN progressive cavity pumpswere installed and operated in combination to transfer digestate mixed with silage into the digester.
An Efficient Pumping Solution for Biogas Applications
The use of two pumps in a dedicated configuration allows the digestate and silage to be thoroughly mixed during the pumping process before entering the digester. This results in a more homogeneous feedstock, improving the stability and efficiency of the anaerobic digestion process.
Compared with conventional mixing in a storage tank, this solution provides a higher degree of homogenization, ensuring a more consistent substrate reaches the digester.
Lower Discharge Pressure, Reduced Energy Consumption
One of the main advantages of this pumping configuration is the reduction of the required discharge pressure. Thanks to the improved flow characteristics of the homogenized product, the pumps operate more efficiently, resulting in lower energy consumption and reduced mechanical stress on the system.
This approach not only improves process performance but also contributes to lower operating costs and increased equipment reliability over time.
